From all the time we spend training and not increasing or sustaining our brain power to the now proven fact that cycling and running kill brain cells which make you more stupid and for being so stupid that we would actually want to do more exercise after doing a 70.3 this ride suitably gets its name. The nice part of being so stupid is we will be reward physically and mentally with visual, physical and mental rewards. Danang has some really nice rides so lets take advantage of being in that part of the world and take a few extra days to recover and relax.
A group from Shanghai is building for the 70.3 Ironman in Danang, on the coast of central Vietnam and a good opportunity to get in some nice coastal and mountain road cycling. Highlights include some very nice hill climbs, a mountain pass or two, great local and international food, kayaking, swimming, hotels at all budgets, support car, food and drinks for the longer rides. Some riders will be riding for 5 days while others will be riding 3 days following the IM on the Sunday. Other group from Bangkok should join as well hopefully as some local riders.
The plan is to fly in Friday the 6th May, IM on Sunday (8th), leave Thursday 12th. Exact arrival / departure dates are tentative and we are trying to get best details on flights.
If interested then email me: [email protected] or as to join the wechat group IM 70.3 Vietnam.
Friday
Fly and arrive Danang. To confirm and depends on flight availability and price. will inform soon.
Saturday
All: (will try to do friday night but no idea what time arrive). Bike setup and check. Will have a full set of tools etc on hand incase of issues and might be able to get something from HCMC at last minute notice if things broken.
IM: Normal Saturday or rest and getting a bit nervous.
Riders: Monkey Island and Haivan Pass Double. The longer route but with some serious grades and serious monkies. Then up the Hai Van pass and please try and get your name on the KOM/QOM board.
Sunday
IM: Do your thing quickly to beat the sun! Then relax.
Riders: Don’t get caught up in the IM road blocks along the coast. Head south to Hoian, have lunch kayak along the riders if you like and come back for beer carb loading with the poor recovering tri people.
Monday to Wednesday
As one happy group we head hopefully out west into the hills. Trying to clarify the route now and it will depend on accommodation. If nothing inland we will do day trips out of Danang / Hoian and Hui. Get back to Danang Wednesday night for one last swim, pack the bikes and feast.
Thursday
Pack and fly
Information
Flight: information coming soon.
Danan hotel: options coming soon.
Visa: some dont need visa if staying less than 14 days. Visa easily done in Shanghai, takes a week and beleive you can also do on arrival to some ports of entry.
Budget: can be as cheap or expensive as you want it.
Other: suggest you get insurance.
Notice
Everything provided at cost / no mark ups and your not paying for any of my or others costs or extra riders etc. Therefore dont expect any service from me / other and make sure you contribute information, support and pro-activily ride as a group! You are responsible for your planning, safety, security etc etc. We try and make everyone welcome however due to the nature of this trip you should be able to happily do 100km. If you don’t feel you can easily do that then we would suggest you have a driver/car follow or you plan cut off pickup / bus points. We will wait for slow riders however we wont slow down the entire group all the time. These rides are not races but hill sprints, intervals KOM/QOM or lazy intervals are encouraged. Make sure all your equipment is in good working order. There will be mixed road conditions so appropriate tires suggested, extra tubes, pump, water and more water. Very hot so bring skin cover and ample sun cream.
