Shanghai Cycling-Wahoo-Jiakina Power Challenge
Event
Framed by the Shanghai Cycling annual Xmas Party on Thursday, 11/26 at Shanghai’s Kartel Wine Bar, Jiakina managed a Power Meter Cycling Competition.
Task
Get as many riders on the bike for a short but intense workout and measure average output and distance. The rider with the highest distance wins. The time was set to 2 minutes
Setup
Trainer/Powermeter: Wahoo Kickr Snap
Bike: Jiakina R15 Ultegra Roadbike (“The Jensweid”)
Set Resistance: we set a 2% Slope: this simulates a sprint uphill without wind and other external resistances.
Measuring Device: IPhone
Outcome
31 riders participated. 27 male, 4 female participants. All did a great gob. All started hard and each one suffered terribly.
All (but one) participants started hard and suffered bad. This exercise shows the physiological processes that take part in the muscles during exercise.
2 minutes is especially hard because you have to start hard because pacing is nearly impossible. Especially if you don’t know the setup.
Also: the distance and avg power on the powermeter is not linear to each other! Especially riders who pushed extremely uneven or even stood up had a lower power output than expected compared to their distance. What happened with Ed Cork’s AVG power is not to explain though,
Result Details:
Ed Cork (Winner male)
Peter Wolkowicz: (2nd male)
Katrina (winner female)
Josephine (2nd female)
JoeM (Allstar, shouldnt have eaten the big steak before)
Phil (the only athlete who got NEGATIVE SPLITS)
